Post-Camp Info: LEGO Bots

We are glad that you enjoyed the LEGO Bots Robotics camp with us. At camp we use LEGO WeDo 1.0. However, these kits are no longer produced and are considered legacy. Therefore, they are rare and costly. You can find a link to buy a LEGO WeDo 2.0 kit below. It is another "sandbox" robotics experience that connects via bluetooth. Make sure you have a compatible device for the WeDo 2.0 software before you buy anything. The software is free. You may also want to explore other robotic options that LEGO offers.

LEGO WeDo Robotics Kits

  • The LEGO Education WeDo 1.0 Construction Set is occasionally available. At this moment it is listed at $399.95 for one of the two sets we use at camp.
  • I see ONE LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 Construction Set  on Amazon for $443.66. I have seen others not listed as LEGO brand but with the same exact pictures for $99. It claims the brand is “generic”, so I’d be careful. Find the return policy before you purchase.
  • If you do get a WeDo kit, you can download the LEGO Education WeDo Programming Software free. It works on Windows 7, 10, MacOS, Chromebook, iPad and Android.
  • Try eBay or other second-hand sellers to find these legacy kits.
  • LEGO does still sell LEGO Education Spike Prime $360 for grades 1-5 or $430 for grades 6-8. This product is retiring on June 30, 2026, so you can be sure the prices will go up after that.

LEGO also provides free training exercises and teaching material for WeDo. These materials are meant for teachers, however, parents can easily follow the instructions to make a fun weekend family project. Your kids would be proud showing off what they learned in camp.
